Yanks in doing right thing shocker [Nov. 5th, 2008|12:03 pm]
Following my last post: well done Yanks

It was interesting to see Obama take Florida, Ohio, Indiana and more Democrats got elected to the Senate – he’s not just won, but got the mandate for his policies and the ability to get them through the US political process.

Now all he has to do is back them up.

Good luck to you, sir.

Right Yanks, listen up; we’ve put up with eight years of the Bush Administration and watched the world go to hell in a hand-basket.

If you get this election wrong again, we’re coming over to repeal the Declaration of Independence.

Srsly.

Run, Fatboy, Run Part Deux [Oct. 5th, 2008|12:38 pm]
Hi everyone on my friends list - here's your daily spam message

As some of you may be aware, I'm running the Cardiff half-marathon in a couple of weeks; I'm running in benefit of Alzheimer's Society who do tremendous work in fighting dementia in the community, because of my Gran who's suffering through it.

My sponsership page is here: http://www.justgiving.com/richskyrme

So, if you'd like to give a couple of quid to a very worthy charity or just like the idea of causing me tremendous pain (I hear 13.1 miles is "quite far") I'm appreciative of any support you give.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Cheers

Rich

(PS this is going to get spammed pretty heavily on other "social networking" type sites, so apologies if you see me out with the begging bowl again)

Run & Become race series [May. 19th, 2008|12:06 pm]
2007 2 mile race: 16:15, 69th out of 86.
2008 2 mile race: 15:02, 62nd out of 92

Happy with that as an improvement in both time and placing, would have like to have got under the fifteen minute mark but that’s a target to aim for next year.

Boom! [Apr. 30th, 2008|01:17 pm]
Collateral damage for Adventure party

Caribbean: wrecked ancient shrine, sunk a couple planes into the sea, peoples homes destroyed, several areas taken out due to firefights. Group wanted by crime family.

USA: Circus destroyed including important clown car equipment, Houston damaged during resulting car chase. Group wanted by various US law enforcement agencies.

Europe: Vatican disrupted with monkey antics, areas of Italy damaged via various chases, German mansion gutted following botched demon summoning, French nobility killed and unique derigible nicked. Group not welcome in several countries, wanted in others.

Britain: Broke out of jail, wanted by law enforcement agencies

Turkey: Huge fight with Chinese crime family, wanted by them.

Atlantis: Discovered, raised from the sea and detonated, Bermuda probably eliminated by resulting tidal wave along with massive damage to eastern seaboard of the US.

Yeah, we’re the good guys

D&D [Apr. 18th, 2008|12:15 pm]
Finished off Dan’s campaign last night; has been good fun with a party who put a premium on laughs rather than being competent. Or following the plot. Or able to do anything useful.

Sadly one person wasn’t there who’s been a constant help throughout the campaign.

Poor Bobo. We’ve got a propeller-topped gold-plated cap with your name on it buddy.

Giggage [Mar. 26th, 2008|05:00 pm]
Dave and Dug and maybe others

Both of you expressed interest in the NME New Music gig on 5th May (CSS, Futureheads, MGMT) – I’ve booked me a ticket as I’m not missing this, they’re sold out from the Uni website but you can get them through Ticketmaster.

Interesting stuff ahead of the final Six Nations games.

Hook in for Jones at fly half, Bennett restored at hooker.

St. Jonny dropped for Danny “Ten Pints” Cipriani

I was thinking of coming up to Swansea on Easter Monday – would people be about for some chat and (if it’s nice) going to beer gardens and suchlike?

Sport [Mar. 10th, 2008|12:02 pm]
I’m not entirely sure how the weekend’s sport could have been any better.

Grand Slam is on again – the jump in quality between the World Cup and now in the Welsh side is remarkable and it’s amazing what a difference a bit of discipline will do. Six months ago there’s no way in hell that the forwards would have been able play keep ball like that, especially when down to fourteen men. Still a few things to sort out – the kicking needs to be more accurate against France – but things are looking up.

In my infinite wisdom I’ve booked to go to an event this coming weekend. Bollocks (I really wasn’t expecting a Grand Slam effort this year!). I’m in half a mind to blow it off, but I shall endeavour to find a boozer near site as I know there’s more than one person who will need to see the game.

England – Scotland was one of the worst games I’ve seen in recent memory but at least the score was entertaining. France – Italy was predictable; the French are obviously rebuilding and experimenting with players in different positions, and the result all but hands the trophy to Wales due to superior points difference. I expect to see an ‘up’ French side next weekend though.

FA Cup games were hilarious – especially the Scum blowing so many opportunities against Pompey and then going out to a penalty. Who said the romance of the cup is dead when you’ve got the possibility of Barnsley playing Cardiff for the biggest knockout trophy in Britain? Good stuff. I suspect there’ll be a lot of closet Bluebird fans emerging at my neck of the woods shortly.

So thanks to everyone for their DIY advice yesterday; I found the answer – get someone else to do it for you (good work Dan)!

In a fit of enthusiasm we also managed to put up a bookcase and rearrange the lounge to make more space – just need to wait till Easter then stage two of the operation can commence.

Went to movie quiz. Came second. Got fed free coffee. Got Tango & Cash and Turner & Hooch mixed up in my head. Found out Ian is resident expert on period drama. Insufficient Star Wars questions. Good fun though.

Tomorrow (the 29th), some of us are meeting in the Three Elms at 8pm for an evening of enlightened discourse and then perhaps some culture. Or maybe we'll talk bollocks and watch Shoot Em Up. Come one, come all.

Choose wisely, Yanks. I don’t think you can do worse that the last eight years, but please don’t feel need to prove me wrong.

Hols [Jan. 16th, 2008|12:17 pm]
Bloody hell.

Due to converting leave into flexi over the year has meant I’ve got 14 days leave left. I can carry 9 days over to next year, but I’ve got to take at least a week off before then.

Can’t afford to go away until later in the year, so I suspect I’ll have a week off doing nothing in particular.

Cardiff giggage [Jan. 15th, 2008|02:01 pm]
Part of my New Year’s Resolution for me: carry on seeing live music, and there’s some stuff I’ve seen in Cardiff that I will or might be going to; if anyone wants to join me that would be great.

Sun 2 March, The Point - Tegan & Sarah – acoustic singer/songwritery stuff
Wed 26 March, Clwb Ifor Bach - Long Blondes – spiky, kitchen sink new wavers.
Wed 19 March, The Point - Hayseed Dixie – good time countrified classic metal hoe down fun
Thu 17 April, St David’s Hall - Buena Vista Social Club – legendary Cuban big band jazz

I appreciate these may not be ‘metal’ enough for some.

Raaaar! Only one half day to go now, and then it’s time for the holidays – I don’t have to go back to work until 7th January which is kickass.

I have been given a bottle of wine by my line manager and got a Darth Vader mug for secret santa.

So after a morning of doing as little as possible, it’s a meal at a good restaurant in Cardiff and then into the night for the traditional Black Friday celebrations. If anyone’s out tomorrow night let me know where you’re going.

This holiday season the turkey appears to have been trimmed with win.

Friday night [Dec. 13th, 2007|07:03 pm]
Anyone in Cardiff up for a night out on the tiles?

Pen and Wig at 8-8.30? Would be good to start off at the other end of town for a change.
